Writing my first novel!

Postby SillyPoet » Mon Sep 21, 2009 6:37 am

Okay, the secret is out. Now you know why I haven't been here.

I'm finally writing a book!

Actually I'm writing two, but the main one is a fantasy novel with magic and swords. I have been struggling with this for a long time now, and decided over the summer I would write three pages a day during the week, and work on my columns and second book on the weekends.

I now have 82 pages of my novel written- that's 1/4 of the book done!

I read a great book by horro author Stephen King called On Writing. He talks about how he got started, and when he did to write. I was totally into this book and could see exactly where I went wrong. I would try to perfect my writing after I wrote the first paragraph.

Now I have a glorious 82 pages, and the only editing I have done was spelling, and adding some foreshadowing. I allowed myself to add stuff in the beginning of the story, but I can NOT read it from the beginning and I will NOT take anything out. When the entire book is done I will then do the rewrite, but not a single thing before the book is finished.

So now you know what I have been doing!

The second book, the women's lit I told you about before, WILL be edited before it is finished, because the structure I have in place now doesn't flow right. I need to see where things are out of sync, and then fix it by adding more story. Right now it's just a jumble of small stories, all out of order. Not a good read, by any means- or at least not a smooth one. :)

Just letting you know what I've been up to!

Dear SP -

I have that book of King's around here somewhere. It's great. Good for you for having the discipline to just sit down and do it. You go girl! W.
