For those of you who wear pedometers, this is a great place to check in and give us an update of how you are doing. When you've walked 5,000 steps you can check in here no matter what time of day it is. If you walk further, don't hesitate to let us know! We'd love to cheer you on! :D Please do not participate in any walking or fitness program without first consulting with your physician.

Okay....

I'm at 2,362 steps so far, but I went swimming this morning. Somehow the pedometer can't record that. I heard that you can record distance swam with some type of gadget. Perhaps I could convert that into steps if I can find one?

I just found out some interesting conversion information for those who record steps but can't always use their pedometers:

http://walking.about.com/od/measure/a/s ... alents.htm

Swimming laps - moderate - 212 steps/min
Swimming laps - vigorous - 303 steps/min
Swimming leisurely - 182 steps/min

Pedometer equivalents for 30 minutes of swimming:

http://walking.about.com/od/measure/a/s ... ents_3.htm

Swimming laps - moderate - 6,364
Swimming laps - vigorous - 9,091
Swimming leisurely - 5,455

Since I swam for 30 minutes at a moderate pace I get to add 6,364 steps to my total! :D

2,362 + 6,364 = 8,726 steps!

That looks a whole lot better, doesn't it?

If you scroll to the bottom of the following website link, it provides you with step equivalent links for 15 min., 30 min., and 60 min. intervals.

way to go ladies!!! My new treadmill is gathering dust with all of the work I have been doing. I just feel like "vegging" out when I finally stop at the end of the day.

But the treadmill is calling my name. That is some good prayer time too.

Keep up the good work.

oh, PS: I have one of those really cheap pedometers that doesn't measure my full stride, so I get a skewed reading. If you have really long legs like me I would suggets a better pedometer to those who are thinking of getting one.

Can I recommend one for you? It is the one made by Steps Count. I purchased the SW700 which records steps, calories burned and distance. I did considerable research on pedometers and finally ended up choosing this one. These pedometers are made by YAMAX in Japan. (The Japanese were the originators of the 10,000 steps program.) These pedometers have an internal mechanism that is highly accurate. They have been used in university research due to their accuracy and are very reasonably priced:

I'm using a Lifebrand pedometer and it does not seem to be working properly. I did a lot of steps today and it is only recording 1,390 steps so far. :(

I'm at 2,693 steps so far today! Too much driving around in the car today and too much work on the computers!
